Gimenez Riili Winery in Mendoza

Gimenez Riili Winery Tour Mendoza

Small in size, big in reputation, the Gimenez Riili winery is the culmination of a dream more than 70 years in the making. In 1945, Don Pedro Gimenez broke ground in Mendoza and today the project is under the management of his grandchildren: Pablo, Federico, and Juan Manuel.

Ensconced in the Uco Valley, the winery is an unimposing cement structure surrounded by fields of newly-planted vineyards. Compared to architectural giants that give the valley its prestigious reputation, Gimenez Riili Winery takes a markedly more humble approach. A small compound consisting of clean lines and cement walls, inside the focus is on the wine, but most visitors enjoy stepping outside.

All Uco Valley wineries lay claim to spectacular mountain views, but Gimenez Riili has made a place for visitors to lounge and linger as they look at Mendoza’s unforgettable Andean horizon. A few paces from the winery’s main entrance stands a cane pergola, shading a picnic table where asados are served during the afternoon and evening. Cooked over a bed of hot coals, this multi-course meal is an ideal introduction into Argentina’s most sacred culinary tradition. The table is laden with a variety of salads, wine glasses are filled with favorites from the Gimenez Riili portfolio, and the local chef circles the table offering tender cuts of meat until no one can stand a single nibble more.

Gimenez Riili Winery also offers cooking classes, unique experiences that allow visitors to learn the ins and outs of typical Argentine recipes including Mendoza empanadas, pollo al disco, and country-style bread baked in a brick oven. Bike rides through the vineyards, horseback riding, and an array of board games are all available upon request. Unlike the in-and-out style of winery tours, Gimenez Riili Winery is a place that travelers choose to slow down, kick back, and relax.
